I love approachable values on Wednesday. Last night I was sipping a delish Mencia (red grape varietal) from Bierzo (region). I can’t help but include my daughter in this pic. The artsy label that looks like a rose reminds me of all the gardens I’d visit while pregnant in Berkeley with her... Rose is now her middle name 😊. That’s what I love about wine. Good wine tells a story. And sometimes it’s even just the label that we connect with initially. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But truth be told this wine is equally delightful once opened. Take the leap and try something different. It’s $20 which again won’t break the bank. The floral aspect on the label matches the wine... incredibly fragrant. A burst of strawberry and pomegranate on the palate. Mencia is medium bodied and so perfect for the winter. The vineyards aren’t certified organic yet but practicing. So it’s good clean wine which I appreciate. Chill it for about 20 minutes in the fridge before serving... you don’t want cold red wine but a slight chill helps take the edge of alcohol off and pair better with food. This wine pairs wonderfully with sausage, pork tenderloin, roasted chicken. Think sage, rosemary, and thyme if incorporating fresh herbs. Salud! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
