We had fun cooking with Sumac! A tart spice that doesn’t have any heat; incredibly fragrant and great with Mediterranean dishes. See link at bottom of post. Hope you enjoy!

Recipe Name: Mediterranean Lamb Patties

  • cook time: 15-20 minutes
  • Servings: 4

    Ingredients:**
    • 1 1/2 lb ground lamb or beef
    • 3-4 cloves garlic minced finely
    • 1 tsp sea salt
    • 1 tsp sumac
    • 1/4 cup mint or cilantro minced finely
    • 1 lemon squeezed
    • 1 egg
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • Arugala & toasted pita to garnish
    • Optional: Hummus with za'tar spice and a cucumber+tomato+red onion salad marinated in red wine vinegar are delicious with this.
  • Instructions:
    • Kids Prep: Put kiddo to work molding the ingredients into patties (ground meat, minced garlic, sea salt, sumac, herbs, lemon, and sumac). They can also be in charge of using the lemon squeezer.
    • Adult Prep: Mince the garlic and herbs. Put all ingredients into bowl for kid to prepare patties. Once complete, cook patties on medium heat in a pan coated with olive oil. Cooking takes about 10 minutes. Toast the pita in the remaining olive oil. Serve patties over a bed of arugala.
